The human skull is composed of several cranial bones, which protect the brain and support various sensory organs. These cranial bones include:

  1. Frontal bone: Forms the forehead and part of the eye sockets (or orbits).
  2. Parietal bones (paired): Two bones that make up the top and sides of the skull.
  3. Temporal bones (paired): Located on the sides of the skull and house the ear canals.
  4. Occipital bone: Forms the back and base of the skull.
  5. Sphenoid bone: A complex bone that contributes to the base of the skull and the orbits.
  6. Ethmoid bone: Located in the front of the skull, between the eye sockets, and helps form the nasal cavity.

These cranial bones are fused together in adults, but in infants and young children, they are not completely fused, allowing for growth of the skull as the brain develops.
